Spice
I am restaurant first opened on April 15th 2004. The restaurant’s birth
was inspired by two individuals combining their
unique ideas from their respective experiences, Padet
Nagsalab and Sujet Saenkham. Mr. Padet
had nine years of experience at Thai Airways Catering while Mr. Sujet
was a flight attendant for over 12 years.
The duo agreed that Sydney had very few true Thai restaurants that
delivered real Thai taste in its cuisine. So, they decided to open
their own restaurant offering real Thai cuisine.
The first customers at the restaurant are Thai. Even though a lot
of people have come in and dined at Spice I am, there was still not
a lot of recognition about the restaurant in the market. That all changed
when the Sydney Morning Herald published an article about the restaurant
in its February 1st 2005 edition. The restaurant has since achieved
popularity up to the present day.
Spice I am has since received numerous awards including:
- Favorite Asian of the Year 2006 Award from Good
Food Guide 2006 (Sydney Morning Herald)
- Clean Plate Award 2006 from Sydney Eat Magazine
- Voted as one of the best out of 10 restaurants from
L.A. Times
- Thai Select Award 2006 from Department of Export Promotion Ministry of Commerce, Royal Thai Government
